Not sure if anyone is still using the GPX file or not - I have been trying to keep it up to date as caches are added and I’ve just done a big update with all caches checked for availability. So the GPX should be spot on for caches that have been archived or made temporary unavailable, as well of course as the several hundred that are ready for your seeking pleasure.

First up we’ll be looking at best traditional cache:
The list is sorted by date… If I can get the time I’ll set it up to have links and maybe a find summary or something.
Theres over 150 caches to choose from so far, so browse the list, and have a good think about your favorite Regular/Traditional cache
I’ll leave out any commentary I have on the state of play this year, but needless to say, there are some corkers in the list!
Click on MORE to see the whole list!

Righto! You should all be aware that myself and Prunes had another crack at the Tassie caches in a day record and beat our old record by a few. It was a hell of a long day, starting at 0430hrs and ending at 0130hrs the next day. first cache found at ~0500 and last found on way home at Tunbridge at 2340. There was absolutely no planning involved which was our downfall. I quite regret not devoting more time to the planning stages as I am sure we could have achieved closer to 50 had this happened. However, it’s a good feeling knowing that craigrat, the original whore of tassie, cannot conceivably hold the title now. That is achievement enough for me and I’m happy to concede the record to anyone else who can achieve it. To aid them Craig himself has offered to provide an itinerary for them. To add to this I will provide the usage of my Streetpilot navigator and also my laptop with GSAK. Time permitting I will also provide myself as a navigator and provider of on site hints. I pretty much have done every whorable cache in state now making me quite well qualified to provide hints etc. So, it could not be easier. All you have to provide is yourself, sausage rolls and a classic milk for lunch and a vehicle. The rest, as they say, will be history. Who will rise to the challenge?

Saturday saw Aloysius7 and Prunes hit Hobart for a caching run that ended up with them bettering their old record to a new one of 36 finds!!
I hear it started at 4:30am and ended at 11:30pm, so that’s a LOT of time on the road!
Hobart isn’t the easiest place to go from A to B in, so this makes it all the more impressive.
Can they hold the record for another year?
Will the southerners realise there are 70 to 80 caches in the NW that are easy to get between in a day, will one of them blitz the record?
Horus and myself had a big sunday, but by 4:30pm (and after a 5am start) we had just plum run out of caches…. our other cache runs had already chewed up a heap…Still a great day was had with a meagre 26 or something caches netted in the day.
Hopefully Aloysius will give us a rundown on his highlights and lowlights of the day!
Well done chaps!
psst: If anyone wants to challenge the record, I may have some tools that’ll help them…. I’m not bitter…. not at all…

Quick post to let everyone know that because of the increased number of spam attacks recently I have added a plugin to these pages that will hopefully cut down on the robot spammers. It requires you to answer a simple maths problem when you wish to leave a comment. I hope it takes awhile for them to get around this because I really don’t want people to have to register to leave comments. So, I hope you passed maths at school!

If, at any time, you are at all unsure of the rules of any given months competition please feel free to berate me for being unclear. I have received a couple of entries in the July competition so far that are not even within the realm of being appropriate for submitting. Pretty much the only two rules…which i may not have been clear about are as follows:
1. You must log a cache with a funny log. Or hide a cache with a funny listing.
2. It must be done during this month.
That’s it. Simple as.

OK. Taking into account the June Competitions spectacular lack of success I have decided to keep the theme nice and simple for the July competition. Theme for this month will be:
MAKE ALOYSIUS LAUGH
Its as simple as that. Through a non direct means you have to make me laugh. By non direct I mean not in the form of an email telling me how your dog has no nose. Entries will be accepted as url links via comments in this post or via email to joe (at) taswaterfalls (dot) com. Acceptable mediums for humor are cache logs and cache descriptions only.
This means the competition is open to anyone who finds or hides a cache this month. Those who think this is purely a selfish endeavor to get a free laugh or two would be totally and utterly….correct

Hey there funksters.
Unfortunately this months competition will be awarded to no one if no further entries are received
The current entries have all been cache maintenance rather than any upgrade to the cache at all. (If you have forwarded an entry to me and believe this statement to be unfair/ untrue please don’t hesitate to contact me with evidence as to why) Ending the comp with no winner is unfortunate and I really would like to avoid it if possible. To achieve this I have decided to leave entries open until Monday 3rd July allowing people an extra weekend to get their entries ready. I will release the June Theme as soon as possible to allow people planning time on that as well. If you have any suggestions as to the theme of the competition or ways in which i could improve on it please don’t hesitate to forward them on to me in any way possible..either here, via email, forum pm, carrier pigeon etc!
The competitions are part of my meagre attempt at breathing some life into the dying beast that is Tasgeocaching.com….IMHO it would be wrong for the site to cease existence as it has a lot of potential…but this potential relies on the Tasmanian caching comunity. As above please don’t hesitate to contact me with any suggestions, criticism or praise regarding the tasgeocaching site.
Peace out peeps!

This months competition is slowly drawing towards its final days. So far only a couple of entries…without wanting to be negative about those entries I think people have slightly misread the theme. Replacing old caches that have been effected by muggles in some way is great…but the competition will be won by the person who upgrades and improves upon one of their caches. Take a cache you aren’t happy with and make it better! As with last months competition some thought will be required…simple maintenance DOES NOT COUNT
